This article analyzes the female condition in the short stories “Os Olhos dos Mortos” (2003) and “Marido” (1997), by Mia Couto and Lídia Jorge, respectively, both produced in the post-colonial period. This analysis is based on Bourdieu's concepts about symbolic violence, habitus, male domination, female submission and structures of domination. The contributions of specific agents and institutions will also be considered, identified by Bourdieu as producers and reproducers of structures of domination, that naturalize male domination.
