The construction of the female character in the tale No moinho

Abstract

The article proposes to reflect about Maria da Piedade, the female protagonist of the short story No Moinho, a fictional narrative written by Eça de Queirós. From the analysis of the character's trajectory constitution, it seeks to relate the construction of its fictional character with the social conditions of women in the 19th century. Next, aspects of the novel O primo Basílio, by Eça de Queirós, will be discussed in order to establish a relationship between the protagonist of the novel, Luísa, and the character Maria da Piedade, analyzing adultery and consequences for female characters.
