THE (IM)PERFECT POETRY OF PATATIVA DO ASSARÉ

Abstract

In this article, I intend to show how Patativa do Assaré presents himself as a virtuous poet in composition while remaining in the popular dimension of language. His poetry is, at the same time, perfect in the versification and “imperfect” in the linguistic sphere. From the poetry and versification studies of T. S. Elliot; Olavo Bilac and Rogério Chociay, an analytical approach will be made to the composition of Patativa do Assaré, seeking to understand how the crossing between matuta and erudite poetry occurs; technique and colloquialism in the popular poetry of the poet from the Cariri region of Ceará.
